Educational Technology Introduction

"Who We are..."

• Background:

• The term Educational Technology was used by W.W Charles in 1948 in an interview. The Phrase instructional technology was used by James Finn in 1963 for a technology development project.
• Muffoletto 1994 says that:
• "Technology is commonly thought in terms of gadgets, instruments, machines and devices and most educators differ to technology as computers.
• It means applying tools for educational purposes as well as the tools and the material used as Muffoletto 1994:
• "Technology...is not a  collection of machines and devices, but a way of acting ." Function of IT is a process rather then a product.

• Definition:
• Educational Technology is a combination of the processes and tools involved in addressing educational needs and problems, with an emphasis on applying the most current tools: computers and their related technologies.
• Here comes the four perspectives of technology in education:
• As media and AV communication
• As instructional system
• As vocational training tool
• As computer and computer based system
